The Egyptian Autistic Society announced today that its 2026 Autism Awareness Campaign has expanded into an international initiative, bringing together more than 20 autism organizations, researchers, and advocacy groups from across the world to promote a unified message of awareness, inclusion, and family support.
For the first time, participating partners from Africa, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and Central Asia will share the same campaign theme, social media messaging, and coordinated awareness activities.
The campaign will be shared globally under the hashtags #GotYourBack and #في_ضهرك.
The initiative represents one of the first international collaborative autism awareness campaigns of its kind since the global “Light It Up Blue” movement.
Campaign Theme
This year’s campaign focuses on siblings of individuals with autism, highlighting the important role they play as lifelong companions, advocates, and sources of support within families.
The campaign’s message, “Got Your Back – في ضهرك,” reflects the bond between siblings and celebrates the role they play in supporting their brothers and sisters with autism.
Landmark Participation in Egypt
As part of the campaign’s activities, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will participate in the global Light It Up Blue initiative on April 2, marking World Autism Awareness Day.
In celebration of the museum’s recent opening, the landmark will be illuminated in blue to raise awareness for autism.
Throughout the month of April, the museum will also host an exhibition featuring chairs designed by individuals with autism, highlighting their creativity, artistic expression, and contributions to society.
Campaign Leadership
The campaign was initiated by Dahlia Soliman of the Egyptian Autistic Society, who has led autism awareness initiatives in Egypt for more than 15 years.
Soliman was recently appointed to the United Nations Autism Advocacy Coalition, recognizing her contributions to advancing autism awareness and family support initiatives.
International Participation
The campaign brings together a wide range of global partners, including autism advocates, foundations, research institutions, and academic leaders.
Participating partners include representatives from organizations such as Autism Speaks (USA), the Global Autism Project, Florida Institute of Technology, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation (Kazakhstan), and the Autism Research Centre at the University of Cambridge, led by Sir Professor Simon Baron-Cohen.
Additional participating organizations and advocates represent countries including Egypt, the United States, Bahrain, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Cameroon, Guinea, and the United Arab Emirates.
Through this international collaboration, the Egyptian Autistic Society hopes to strengthen global dialogue around autism and promote greater understanding, inclusion, and support for autistic individuals and their families.
